Latest Activity: Jul 6, 2011
As you would expect there are bands playing at Fetes, Festivals & Fayres, Galas & Garden Parties, Concerts & Carnivals, Bandstands, Beer Festivals and BBQs, Parks, Promenades, Parades & Processions, Rehearsals & Rallies, and fund-raising for the Royal British Legion, Charities and many other Good Causes.
You also wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Brass Bands will be celebrating their own anniversaries & festivals, with over 40 bands expected to perform at the Durham Miners’ Gala, as well as over 20 bands at Pershore Midsummer Brass and more than 10 bands competing at the Silkstone March & Hymn Contest. We also see Lions Youth Brass come of age and celebrate their 21st Anniversary and Todmorden Community Brass notch up 10 years this summer.
However if you’re looking for something different then how about a brass band in Bucky Doo Square?, or you could get Brassed Off with 3 bands and the Charity Dream Girls in Halifax Piece Hall, have a Sunny Saturday in Wokingham, travel back in time to World War II in South Devon, set sail on the Oceana from Southampton, go see a Brass Band concert in a Cavern! (not the one in Liverpool), for more traditional fayre you could check out Leek Club Day or Well Dressings in West Hallam, and finally if you get the invite there are 3 weddings... oh and not to forget the ubiquitous Dog Show – if you get there please let us know!
MAD 4 Brass Bands Day is a new initiative from the British Federation of Brass Bands and their Liaison Officer put everything into context “This event has been designed to “Make A Difference” for Brass Bands and clearly demonstrates the huge contribution bands make in our local communities across the UK. The BFBB is now working with participating bands and event organisers to the maximise publicity and encourage more members of the public to participate in Brass Band music making either as volunteers, players, supporters or audience members. So join with us on 9th July 2011 and start Making A Difference for your Brass Band!”
And if you are unable to get involved this year then get ready to find that Dog Show at next year’s event on Saturday 7th July 2012

Could you let me have more details on what we need to do for the event.
Hi Linda, Ways to take part:
1) Your band may get a booking to play that day anyway (e.g. Durham miners gala)
or
2) Your band may decide to put on their own event that day, which could be something as simple as a fund-raising coffee morning up to a full scale concert.
and
3) As part of the MAD4BB Day preparations we will be encouraging promoters/ organisations/ companies/ local authorities around the country to book bands to perform.
Then if you decide to take part, please add your event to the comments list here. Regards Terry
